The Academy

In April 2001, distinguished scientists from all over the world decided to found the Ana Aslan International Foundation.

The Act of Foundation stipulates the establishment of an elite academic forum – The Ana Aslan International Academy of Aging – whose managing board brings together leading international figures in the field of medical science, education, technology, and communications.  Its purpose – that of initiating, elaborating, running and supporting specific research, educational and cultural programmes and projects – is reflected in the goals laid out in the act of foundation.

Initiation, organisation and financing of:
  • Programmes for the development in Romania of holistic-integrative medical services in the field of the medicine of longevity and preventative medicine, determination of individual factors of risk in brain aging, and creation and development of systems of home care for persons with cognitive and physical disabilities
  • Medico-social programmes for persons with no income or incomes below the poverty line, with the aim of preventing their social marginalisation and integrating these deprived categories into work
  • Medical centres, units and clinics that include multidisciplinary investigative services provided by highly qualified staff: specialist physicians, psychologists, social workers, specialists in rehabilitation and movement therapy, etc.
  • Programmes for the medial rehabilitation and social reintegration of the elderly, their inclusion in economic, social and cultural activities, and support for those who wish to utilise surplus labour, as well as administrative counselling for elderly persons in need
  • Medical home care for the elderly and persons with mental/physical disabilities
  • Academic and public programmes dedicated to education in the fields of geriatrics/gerontology, gerontopsychiatry and the medicine of longevity, in concordance with the current legislation, in order to contribute to the creation of a specific, highly qualified workforce
  • Educational and training projects and programmes for counsellors and others working in this field, and to advise persons who look after the elderly or persons with mental and/or physical disabilities

Publication, support and promotion, under the auspices of the Ana Aslan International Academy of Aging, of Brain Aging review, a publication run by a distinguished international editorial board.

Development of fundamental and applied scientific research, as well as the transfer to university and other research centres worldwide of expertise in the field of research into brain aging.

The award of grants for study and research in Romania and abroad to participants in university and post-university courses, physicians, doctoral students, and undergraduates.

Promotion of co-operation with socio-medical organisations, institutions, academies, universities and institutions engaged in the creation of a durable and competitive health system in Romania and abroad.
